Posted on: April 28, 2026

On April 24, 2026, Eskasoni Health Centre proudly hosted its 4th Annual General Meeting in Eskasoni, bringing together staff, community members, and distinguished guest speakers.

We were honored to welcome Senator Dr. Mary Jane McCallum, residential school survivor, who shared her journey from practicing dentistry to serving in Parliament, with a strong focus on the role of Social Determinants of Health, Indigenous rights, equity, and reconciliation.

Dr. Megan Thomas spoke about the importance of the first two years of life, highlighting Provincial Preschool Autism Service (PPAS) and ways to improve outcomes for children and families.

Dr. Phillip Tibbo, professor and researcher, presented on cannabis, brain development and Mental Health outcomes, particularly in youth

We also welcomed Sean Collins, Provincial Manager of Integrated Health Operations with Emergency Health Services (EHS), to discuss the Community Paramedic program that launched in Eskasoni in November 2024.

We also had the opportunity to invite key partners this year including Eskasoni School, Eskasoni Nepisulti’kul, NADACA and Mi’kmaw Family and Children Services, highlighting the importance of collaboration in building a healthier community together.

A special moment of the afternoon was recognizing our staff for their years of devoted service:

• 5 years: Audrey Johnson, Jena Gilliland, and Ronald Gould

We were also proud to celebrate this year’s award recipients selected by Health Advisory Committee:

• Administrative Operations Award: Krista Gould
